Upstart Lions’ Den

Posted by gauti on July 4, 2006

We have been running the first Upstart Creative Commerce course since March. It’s aimed at entrepreneurs starting out in the media arts, and in true media luvvie fashion we finished with a wine reception. Last Thursday the course concluded with a double feature: First “The Lions’ Den”, where participants pitched their business ideas and plans to a select panel of investment and enterprise specialists: Henry Fyson (Creative Capital Fund), Michael Williams (Barclay’s Bank, Soho), Carol Jacobs (SkillSet). They deserve big thanks for the valuable ideas and criticism they offered the presenters.

Just to mention the pitches that involved existing websites: Harps Johal pitched on behalf of his company Blaise Productions; Mona Yousefi presented the Mayhem Makers comedy troupe; and Cimeon Ellerton riffed on the London Breakbeat Orchestra.

Jobeda Ali, Upstart Business Development Leader, got a big round of applause for her efforts. She organized the Creative Commerce course in an exemplary fashion, and brought in speakers from across the creative industries in London. Below is a photo of Ros Davies introducing the Head of the School of Humanities at the University of Greenwich, Dr. Jane Longmore, who handed out certificates to Creative Commerce participants. Before that, though, we told Jobeda that she rocks, and then we made them all pose for a group photo.
